Tephrosia virginiana

Rare color combination of pink and yellow flowers. Very drought tolerant. Seeds ejected from pods and will self sow well in appropriate habitats to form loose colonies. Bees are the primary pollinator for this species. It is the host, along with other legumes, for the Southern Cloudywing(Thorybes bathyllus) and the moth Goat's Rue Looper (Semiothisa eremiata). Another legume with a rhizobia relationship. Rotenone, a broad-spectrum insecticide, piscicide, and pesticide, occurs in the root of this species and was used by Native Americans to catch fish.
